Seating chart & directions

The subject of how this country deals with its 2,300,000 prisoners has been thrust into the spotlight in the past few weeks in the form of articles and statistics as well as President Bush's commitment to the Second Chance Act. THE CASTLE connects those cold facts to human stories and experiences.

THE CASTLE is a 70 minute "drama verite" in which 4 ex-convicts with a total of over 70 years in New York State prisons recount their stories of privation, crime, imprisonment and redemption. Conceived and directed by former theatrical press agent David Rothenberg, THE CASTLE is both the name of this drama and the name of the Fortune Society residence facility at Riverside Drive and 140th Street where each of these performers found sanctuary upon their release from prison.

While about prisons and former prisoners, THE CASTLE is not grim at all, but rather wonderfully human and inspirational. At every one of our performances it has garnered an immediate standing ovation and a lively "talk back" with the performers after the show. The Castle is the residential facility run by The Fortune Society for ex-convicts re-entering society. A portion of revenue goes to The Fortune Society.

Conceived and Directed by: David Rothenberg Written in Collaboration with: Vilma Ortiz Donovan, Kenneth Harrigan, Angel Ramos and Casimiro Torres, producer: Eric Krebs, Press Agent: Rick Miramontez
