Gos See the Vegas Show!
Review by: Steve S., Aug 27, 2008
|
|
I saw Jersey Boys in Las Vegas last Friday night. It was spectacular. I had front row seats, which I feel were a bit too close as a lot of action takes place above the stage on the upper level (particuarly on stage left). Go see this show!

Nobody said New Jersey was Disneyland

I can't help but think that the people offended by the language of this show are being just the slightest bit hypocritical. There are, and have been used repeatedly, in many lauded shows, words far more offensive than the "F-Word" and yet I don't recall anyone ever being offended by the use of these words in the context of the show, certainly not to the extent that people walked out of the theater. "A Soldier's Story",... read more, which I believe won the Pulitzer Prize, was a recounting of the murder of a black army sergeant during World War II. The "N" word was spoken 15 times. David Mamet in "GlenGary GlenRoss" which also won the Pulitzer for drama (and rose to the standard of a play too cerebral for the oft-maligned "Bridge and Tunnell" crowd) employed the "F-word" more than 100 times, "c-sucker, four times", and sh#t, 45 times.) Leonard Bernstein, allowed librettist Stephen Sondheim to use the derogatory and rascist term, "spic" four times in "West Side Story" which, it could be argued, when used to demean an ethnic group is far more odious than any expletive employed in "The Jersey Boys" which sent some ticket holders scurrying for the exits. As to the show itself, the overwhelming number of ovationary reviews speaks for itself. There is no point in rehashing the merits of "The Jersey Boys". It is electrifying theater that inspires in audiences a collective response that i have never seen before in more than 30 years of attending Broadway shows. It should not be at all surprising that a small percentage of theatergoers would find "Jersy Boys" unappealing. "Dr. Zvivago" and "Citizen Kane" even collected reviews that decried the films as forgettable and of no artistic merit.

Spectacular!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just saw Jersey Boys last night and the word spectacular does not begin to describe it. I was awe struck. I have seen a lot of broadway shows and this was clearly the best show I have ever seen. I was actually in tears when the show was over and the cast came out to take their final bows. I totally do not understand all the complaints about the profanity. I don''t use profanity but I was not offened by any of it. I ... read more hear it everyday. It in no way takes anything away from the show. I LOVED IT!!!!!

This show is one of the best on Broadway. For the people who are offended by the language, it's their fault! They should have researched the show first. In my opionion the title, JERSEY Boys, says it all. It's New Jersey. What do you expect. This show is amazing in every way. The set is so graceful and moves with perfect fluidity. The cast is excellent and full of energy. This show is a must see for Broadway fans.

One of Broadway's Best!

I just got back from seeing this show with a friend and our parents at the State Theater in Cleveland. I went expecting to see a good show but i was not expecting the FABULOUS show in turned out to be! The set was fabulous and the acting, singing, everything was amazing! Yes there was lots of swearing but you get used to it very quickly and it actually makes the acting more believable. Plus, i'm 16, and in High school.. i hear it all everyday ... read more anyways. We sat in the middle mezzanine and the view was great, even though i brought my binoculars to help out. When they started singing Sherry Baby the entire audience started cheering, and by the end of the show everyone was on their feet. This is a must see, if you can't make it to New York or Vegas, wait until the tour comes by your city, cus the one i saw i Cleveland was Fantastic!

great great show!!! my favorite right now on broadway! great acting, story, and music! what else can you ask for? i noticed some people complained about the profanities by being in my twenties and growing up with sopranos and hip-hop i didn't even notice the use of profanities. come on people, it is a story about blue collar italian-american boys from new jersey. a dose of profanities is kind of expected.

Enough already aboutteh language
Review by: eastside, Jun 9, 2008
|
I am writing this review BEFORE seeing the show in about a week and a half, while listening to 4 Seasons music in the background. I can't believe how many people, in 2008, are SO uptight about some language, typically the same thing heard in the locker room, in dugouts everywhere, and at most workplaces. This is a story about street kids from Jersey, people. I am a street kid from Cleveland, and I anticipate nothing more than I heard ... read more every day of my young life, and what I have heard ever since. You all need to chill out. Maybe listen to some rap and see what your teenaged kids are downloading...

A MUST SEE!
Review by: Elizabeth, Jun 7, 2008

Very, very good show! I saw it in Cincinnati and was blown away! I was not expecting it to be as good as everyone was saying it would be, but wow. In my opinion, it is a show for not only people who grew up listening to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons when they first came out, but also for younger audiences also. I am 17 years old, and loved all of the music. While I was brought up listening to the music, I loved how the music was explained ... read more and intertwined through the story. Yes, there were profanities, but people need to get over that. For someone, like me, who has seen over 20 Broadway productions, I can say this is one of the best I have ever seen.

A MUST SEE....GOLLY GEE!!!!
Review by: AMY, Jun 2, 2008
|
|
This show is amazing and the language some seem to be concerned about had to be there if the story was going to be believable. A "golly gee Frankie" just would not have been REAL. Come on people get over yourselves. I have been to many, many Broadway shows and this show is AMAZING!!!! DON'T MISS IT...you will be sad and I "golly gee" mean it!!!! If you DON'T want to see a an unforgettable, biographical and believable show with heart pounding ... read more music...go see MARY POPPINS, that way there will be more seats available for me to see the show again!
