Rue Magique

About Rue Magique:

Rue Magique plays at King's Head
115 Upper Street, London, N1 1QN

Based on a true story, Rue Magique, a new musical, explores the complex relationship between "Desdemona", a South London prostitute, and her thirteen-year-old daughter "Sugar". A moving rite of passage story, Rue Magique portrays a world that exists beneath the radar of police and social services, where people struggle to survive by any means possible... But can there be any hope, any redemption, when a mother forces her own daughter into prostitution?

Initially conceived by composer-lyricist Brett Kahr as a one-act musical written for a children's charity, RUE MAGIQUE received its first performance in the presence of H.R.H. Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales. Now, in collaboration with writer-director Lisa Forrell, it has blossomed into a full-length musical.
Leading the cast is Melanie La Barrie (Les Miserables, Mary Poppins, Daddy Cool) in the role of Desdemona. Joining her is Terel Nugent, most recently seen in Hairspray, as Rem, and newcomer Nadia Di Mambro as Sugar.
